Cherries also help in the reduction of excess uric acid in the blood, thereby useful in preventing gout, Cherries also have calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, which help in building bones. Pickled Ingredients Cherries: 1 kg Natural vinegar: 300ml Sugar: 500 g Cloves: 6 Fresh ginger, peeled: 15 g Cinnamon, crushed: 2 small sticks. Method: Wash and stone the cherries. Dissolve the sugar in heated vinegar and add the spices. Simmer the cherries in the spiced vinegar for a few minutes, then pack into warmed jars and cover with the vinegar. When cooled, seal and store. These are best eaten with main course meats, tarts or quiches as an accompaniment. To use cherries for dessert, substitute the vinegar with 250 ml water. Serve with yogurt or ice cream
